Preparing For Employment - Pathway 3

Preparing for Employment is our most academic pathway, designed for learners who are ready to work towards a broad programme of accredited qualifications alongside sustained work‑based learning.

This pathway focuses on:

  • Developing employability skills and professional behaviours
  • Achieving academic and vocational qualifications
  • Strengthening independence, organisation and self‑management
  • Building confidence and emotional wellbeing for adult working life

Learners on this pathway typically present with starting points at Entry Level 3 and above, with assessment indicating readiness to access a predominantly qualification‑led curriculum, progressing to Level 1 or GCSEs where appropriate.

Learning is delivered through a class‑based, group learning model, with clear expectations around independence, accountability and sustained engagement. Teaching includes scaffolding and targeted support where required to ensure learners can access and succeed within accredited learning.

Vocational learning is central to this pathway, with learners accessing industry‑relevant qualifications.

There is a clear expectation of increasing independence in work‑related learning:

  • Independent work placements by summer term of Year 12
  • Progression to up to two days per week of work experience in Year 13

Some learners may initially receive job‑coaching support, with assistance gradually reduced as confidence and competence develop.

For many learners, Preparing for Employment supports progression into paid employment, apprenticeships, supported internships or further education, alongside the skills needed for independent adult life.
