Clubs & Activities
Student Clubs and Enrichment
Our student clubs form an important part of the college’s wider personal development and wellbeing provision. Clubs provide structured opportunities for learners to develop confidence, social skills, independence, resilience, and positive relationships alongside their academic learning.
Through participation in clubs, students are supported to:
- Build friendships and a sense of belonging
- Develop teamwork, communication, and turn‑taking skills
- Engage in healthy, active lifestyles
- Explore personal interests and strengths
- Develop confidence in new or unfamiliar activities
Over the years, a wide range of clubs has been offered to reflect student interests and wellbeing needs, including:
- Football
- Sports and darts
- Healthy eating
- Bike maintenance
- Gardening
- Computer hardware
- Retro gaming
- Karaoke
- Movie club
- Pamper sessions
- Couch to 5K
Many of these activities support the development of practical life skills, as well as students’ physical and emotional wellbeing, and promote engagement beyond the classroom.
During the current academic year, students have been able to take part in:
- Sports and football
- Online gaming
- Taster sessions, including:
- Volleyball
- Pickleball
- Table tennis
- Badminton
- Snooker/pool
- Darts
These taster sessions provide opportunities for students to try new activities in a supportive environment, helping to build confidence and encourage positive risk‑taking.
Clubs are designed to be accessible for all learners, with appropriate support in place to promote positive participation while developing independence. Opportunities may vary across the year, and student voice plays a key role in shaping future club provision. Students are encouraged to speak to their class student council representative if they would like to request a specific club or become involved in running one.
This approach has been highly successful; for example, the British Sign Language (BSL) Club, one of our most well‑attended clubs, was planned and led by a student, demonstrating excellent leadership, confidence, and preparation for adulthood.
