Curriculum Strategy

What We Want for Our Learners

At Market Field College, our curriculum is designed to prepare young people for learning, life and work. Our intent is to ensure that every learner, regardless of starting point, develops the knowledge, skills, confidence and independence needed for adulthood.

Our curriculum is ambitious, inclusive and personalised. It reflects high expectations for all learners while recognising individual needs, aspirations and Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes. We place equal value on academic learning, vocational pathways and personal development, with a strong Preparing for Adulthood (PfA) framework at the heart of everything we do.

Through carefully planned progression, we aim for learners to become increasingly independent, socially confident and work‑ready, with clear next steps into further education, employment, community participation or adult independence.

How We Deliver Our Curriculum

Our curriculum is broad, balanced and coherently sequenced, combining academic subjects, vocational learning and a structured PfA programme within a clear pathway model. Learners follow personalised learning pathways that provide the right balance of structure, challenge and support, with expectations for independence increasing over time.

Teaching is responsive, inclusive and learner‑centred. Learning is adapted to meet a wide range of needs and is delivered through a combination of classroom teaching, practical experiences, vocational training, enrichment and community‑based learning. Knowledge and skills are carefully built and revisited to support retention, application and progression.

Where appropriate, learning is accredited through nationally recognised qualifications and unit awards, ensuring that achievement is meaningful and supports learners’ next steps. Assessment is purposeful and ongoing, enabling staff to adapt teaching, support progress and capture small‑step and sustained achievements.

What Learners Gain and Achieve

As a result of our curriculum, learners make clear and sustained progress from their starting points academically, vocationally and personally. They develop essential literacy, numeracy, digital and employability skills alongside communication, emotional resilience, wellbeing and independence.

Learners leave Market Field College better prepared for adult life: able to make informed choices, participate positively in their communities and move confidently into further education, training, employment or supported pathways. Progress is recognised through a combination of accreditation, personal development outcomes and successful transitions beyond college.

Our curriculum impact is reflected in learners who are more confident, capable and independent, with improved life chances and meaningful preparation for adulthood.
