Preparing for Life - Pathway 1
Preparing for Life is designed for learners who require the highest level of support within our core offer and benefit from a predominantly life‑skills‑based curriculum. This pathway focuses on building foundational skills that enable learners to engage with learning, routines and community life with confidence.
This pathway focuses on:
- Building essential life skills and personal independence
- Developing communication, interaction and social understanding
- Accessing learning across a broad and balanced curriculum, including life skills, core subjects and supported vocational learning
- Increasing participation within familiar college routines and supported community settings
Learners on this pathway present with a range of starting points, with assessment indicating that a highly supported, scaffolded approach to learning at Entry Level is most appropriate at this stage. Learners benefit from predictable routines, repetition and carefully planned learning experiences delivered through meaningful, real‑life contexts.
Learners access a class‑based, group learning model, following a shared pathway timetable. Learning is carefully scaffolded to enable access to the curriculum alongside peers, with adaptations and targeted interventions provided where needed.
Learners are introduced to vocational learning experiences prior to selecting a subject option, allowing them to explore interests, routines and environments linked to the world of work in a supported and age‑appropriate way.
Work experience is fully adult‑supported and delivered through group placements, enabling learners to build familiarity with work environments in a structured setting.
For many learners, Preparing for Life provides a strong foundation for developing greater independence, confidence and active participation as valued members of their communities.
