Work Experience
Work experience is a key part of the curriculum at our college. It gives students the chance to take the skills they develop in the classroom and apply them in real workplaces, with real responsibilities, and real achievements.
We work closely with a wide range of employers who understand the value that young people with SEND bring to their teams. Whether it’s helping in a café, supporting a local charity, getting stuck on a farm or contributing to an office environment, every placement is carefully matched to each student's interests, abilities and aspirations.
During their placement, both students and employers receive support from college staff. Students on group placements are fully supported by staff throughout. Shelley Evans, our Work Experience Coordinator, maintains daily contact with employers hosting independent students, to ensure everything is running smoothly.
On work experience, many students discover new talents, build communication and teamwork skills, and learn what it means to be part of a community. Some even move on to paid employment, Accessible Apprenticeships, or further training as a direct result of their experience.
Work experience isn’t just about preparing for a job — it’s about helping students understand their strengths, explore their ambitions, and take meaningful steps toward a more independent future.
