Wellbeing & Mental Health

At Market Field College, student wellbeing is central to everything we do. We recognise that behaviour is a form of communication, influenced by individual experiences, emotional development, and unmet needs. Our approach is rooted in understanding, dignity, and emotional safety, creating an environment where students feel supported, secure, and ready to learn.

Universal and Targeted Wellbeing Support

Wellbeing interventions may include time with the college dog, sound‑based relaxation activities, Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA)‑led emotional support, yoga, and creative wellbeing activities. These structured interventions support emotional expression, self‑reflection, and emotional regulation in a safe and supportive way.

Students may also be supported by a skilled listener, providing a consistent, trusted space for discussion, reassurance, and reflection. In addition, students can access the Thrive Suite. The Thrive Suite is a small sensory room designed to support students who require help with emotional regulation and self‑regulation skills, providing a calm, structured environment to help students regulate their emotions and re‑engage positively with learning.

For students with higher or more complex levels of need, Targeted Plus support provides personalised planning and, where appropriate, coordinated work with external professionals. All wellbeing support provided by the college is pastoral in nature and complements high‑quality teaching and safeguarding practice.
